Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg has built homes for four excited families in Charles City County!

Meet the Families!

See the Models!

The project is the first time Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg will build and sell homes in Charles City County, although the Richmond Habitat affiliate previously built a home in the County.

Homes are purchased with a zero-interest equivalent, 20 to 30-year mortgage. Construction of each Habitat for Humanity house is a cooperative effort between volunteers, house sponsors and the buyers of the house. Participating families provide hundreds of hours (called sweat equity) toward building their own and other families’ homes.

Insulating Concrete Form

These four homes will be constructed using a material called insulating concrete form (ICF). ICF is a mold used to hold freshly poured concrete in place during construction and those molds remain in place permanently to provide additional insulation for the concrete walls. ICF has been around since shortly after WWII, but initially ICF was only used in high end, custom homes due to material cost. Over the years, as ICF gained popularity among manufacturers, the material is now an affordable alternative to traditional lumber framing. We are proud to offer this energy efficient, disaster resistant, strong material to our homebuyers.

Want to Support this Project?

Volunteer!

We need the community’s support to build these four homes in a timely manner! Once construction starts on the homes, we will be scheduling volunteers here. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Habitat’s staff trains every volunteer each morning on that day’s task.

Donate In-Kind!

We welcome the donation of in-kind goods and services, such as flooring, licensed mechanical services, landscaping and much, much more. Please email info@habitatpgw.org if you are considering an in-kind gift.

Donate Funds!

We have a few amazing partners for these homes, but the project is not fully funded. Please consider a financial donation to this project, so these four excited families can realize their dreams of homeownership. No gift is too small!

These sponsors have shown their commitment to this project and our mission by their generosity.

Want to invest in the community?

DONATE NOW

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
