The Veterans Build program provides current and former military members with the opportunity to engage in their community by volunteering and provides former military members access to quality affordable housing through homeownership and exterior repairs.

APPLY TO PURCHASE A HOME

Habitat for Humanity is always accepting applications for former military members or veterans interested in becoming Habitat homeowners. Please review the information on our homebuyer page here about the program qualifications. A former military member or veteran is defined as a “person who served in the active military, naval or air service, and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.”

Families will be selected for the Habitat for Heroes program according to the program qualifications. Habitat for Heroes families receive a 25% discount off the total house cost. The zero-interest Habitat mortgage includes real estate taxes and homeowners insurance and will be no more than 30% of the buyer’s income.

If you have any specific questions or would like to submit an application after reviewing the information provided, please send an email to partner@habitatpgw.org or call 757-913-5653.

WORK WITH HABITAT

We are always looking for current and former military members to work with Habitat and are currently hiring. Please visit our Careers page for more information.

DONATE TO HABITAT

To ensure the success of this initiative, Habitat is actively seeking financial and in-kind resources for future Habitat for Heroes builds. It is our goal to continue to serve those who have served us. If you would like to get involved with this program with a financial or in-kind gift to support your local former military members and veterans, please contact CEO Janet V. Green at 757-913-5651 or email Janet@HabitatPGW.org.

VOLUNTEER FOR HABITAT

Habitat has many projects that need the leadership and expertise of current and former military in our community. For instance, we are always in need of team leaders for our Home Repair Program. For other construction volunteer opportunities, please go here.

Want to invest in the community?

DONATE NOW

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
