Eight families.
One community.

The Moores duplex project is the first build of its kind for Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg — and the first homes to rise in a new 47-home community taking shape on Clark Lane in partnership with James City County. Help us break ground, build up, and welcome new families into their homes.

We Don’t Give Homes Away

It’s the most common thing people get wrong about Habitat, so let’s set the record straight.

We sell homes to qualified families with low-to-moderate incomes, financed through a 20- to 30-year, no-interest mortgage they pay just like any other homeowner. Buyers work hard for their homes:

  • They demonstrate a good credit history and the ability to make a monthly mortgage payment.
  • They complete 300 hours of sweat equity — building their own home and their neighbors’ homes right alongside our volunteers.

What families gain is what generations before them counted on: a stable, affordable place to build a life, and equity that can change their family’s future.

Be Part of Building The Moores

A donation of any size builds momentum toward our $1.5 million goal. Give once, or become a monthly partner and help build homes all year long.

Businesses, congregations, and civic groups can put their name on a duplex (one unit or both!) and rally their people around a build with creative fundraising and support from Habitat. Home sponsorship is one of the most powerful ways to make The Moores possible — let’s talk about the right fit for your organization.
Contact our CEO Shauntrice Williams about partnering with Habitat using swilliams@habitatpgw.org or 757-427-8156.

No construction experience required — just a willingness to show up. Swing a hammer, welcome families, or lend your professional skills. When we break ground, we’ll need you on-site.

Not everyone can give or build, but everyone can share. Tell a friend, post about The Moores, and help us reach the people and partners who can carry this project across the finish line.

DONATE NOW

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
