Habitat Newport News, Williamsburg ReStores 2022 Roundup Campaign Will Add Up to New Home for a Family

When most of us round up to the next dollar at the cash register, we don’t even feel it.

But that extra change means everything to families who qualify for Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg’s Homebuyer Program, which sells low- to moderate-income homes to qualifying families. The zero-interest mortgage payments are cycled back into the community to help build additional Habitat houses. When customers are asked to round up their purchases at the Newport News and Williamsburg ReStores, all of the proceeds support that mission.

The idea of the Round Up campaign is “change makes change.” The 2021 Round Up campaign raised enough to build a home in Hampton that will be sold to a mother of two later this year. The 2022 campaign has a goal of $125,000, the cost to build a Habitat house that will also be sold to a local family.

“The Round Up campaign and its success are just another example of how a ReStore is only as great as the community it is in,” said Jonathan Martinez, Manager of the Williamsburg ReStore. “Reaching our goal last year is a reflection of when our community is called to service with charity, they always answer above and beyond.”

The ReStore sells gently used furniture, appliances, contracting supplies — anything and everything from an evolving inventory with prices typically 30% to 90% off retail.

The Newport News ReStore is at 371 Chatham Drive. The Williamsburg ReStore is at 1303 Jamestown Road.

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible.
