Habitat for Humanity Now Accepting 2025 Applicationsfor First-Time Homebuyers

Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is now accepting applications for its 2025 First-Time Homebuyer Program, offering an opportunity for eligible individuals and families to achieve the dream of homeownership.

Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

The nonprofit partners with local families to build decent and affordable homes. Selected homebuyers purchase their homes through an affordable, zero-interest mortgage over 20 to 30 years. Monthly payments include property taxes and homeowner’s insurance. In addition to financial qualifications, selected applicants must contribute at least 300 hours of β€œsweat equity” by helping build their own home and the homes of others.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be a first-time homebuyer (no homeownership within the past three years)
  • Have lived or worked in one of the following localities for at least 12 months: Charles City County, Hampton, James City County, New Kent County, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg or York County
  • Meet income and credit requirements
  • Demonstrate a need for affordable housing
  • Be willing to complete the required sweat equity hours

Completed applications must include all supporting documentation and a $45 processing fee per applicant.

Mailed applications must be received by the April 30 deadline β€” postmarks will not be accepted. A secure 24-hour mail slot is available at the administrative office for after-hours drop-off.
