Congressman Bobby Scott Visits Newport News 3D Printed Homes Under Construction

Our 3D printed homes under construction in Newport News got a special visitor this week – Congressman Bobby Scott! Rep. Scott came to see first-hand the impact of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) in his district and the critical work AmeriCorps and Habitat are able to achieve together. As the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, Rep. Scott plays a critical role in efforts to strengthen and expand AmeriCorps across the country.

Rep. Scott was very interested in how AmeriCorps is helping young people who serve on their pathway to careers and continued education.

He talked with each member and asked what they were doing after college, impressed by their choice to spend their summer completing such critical work.

AmeriCorps NCCC offers young people between the ages of 18-26 valuable professional experience while helping others. Their lodging and travel expenses are covered while they team up and travel as a full-time members supporting community service projects.

This Summer of Service work by AmeriCorps NCCC drew young people here from all over, including Texas, Massachusetts and Maryland. They drove from Iowa to Virginia and are serving here through early August.

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
