Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg will build two 3D printed homes in Newport News in 2022-2023

Following the successful completion of the first Habitat for Humanity 3D printed home in the nation – completed in 2021 in Williamsburg – Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is at it again!

Thanks to partners Newport News Shipbuilding and BayPort Credit Union, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg has started on TWO 3D printed homes in Newport News, Virginia.

Alquist, the same 3D printed home company that worked on the Williamsburg home in 2021, will also help construct these two homes.

The homes are made possible also by Newport News Redevelopment & Housing Authority, Ferguson and CVP (Custom Vinyl Products), who have provided in-kind services and products to the homes.

About Our House Partners

The groundbreaking marks the 20th and 21st Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg homes sponsored by global defense and technologies partner HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division. It marks the first time NNS has sponsored two homes at once and is also the first time the homes sponsored by NNS are being built using 3D printing technology. NNS President Jennifer Boykin, the 20th president of the shipyard, is fittingly the executive sponsor of the 20th home, while Dave Bolcar, vice president of engineering & design, is the executive sponsor of the 21st home.

Organized as Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. Employees’ Credit Union in 1928 to serve the financial needs of shipyard employees and their families, today BayPort Credit Union is rated a Superior 5-Star Credit Union by Bauer Financial and services individuals and businesses of the Virginia Peninsula, Southside, and surrounding coastal communities. With nearly 148,000 credit union members and more than $2.2 billion in assets, BayPort’s purpose and philosophy remain faithful to its motto of people helping people. BayPort is committed to developing long-term prosperity for communities by committing to members’ financial well-being..

Want to Support this Project?

Volunteer!

We need the community’s support to build these two homes during and after the 3D printing! Once construction starts on the homes, we will be scheduling volunteers here. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Habitat’s staff trains every volunteer each morning on that day’s task.

Donate In-Kind!

We welcome the donation of in-kind goods and services, such as flooring, licensed mechanical services, landscaping and much, much more. Please email info@habitatpgw.org if you are considering an in-kind gift.

Donate Funds!

We have a few amazing partners for these homes, but the project is not fully funded. Please consider a financial donation to this project, so these four excited families can realize their dreams of homeownership. No gift is too small!

Want to invest in the community?

DONATE NOW

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
