Your Help is Still Needed to Build Affordable Homes in Our Community

Habitat walls welcome home

You may have heard the amazing news that philanthropist MacKenzie Scott donated $436 million to Habitat International and 84 Habitat affiliates. WOW! Her generosity will truly help many Habitat communities meet their goals of providing more affordable housing for hardworking families with low-to-moderate incomes!

Regrettably, our Habitat affiliate was not one of the 84 chosen to receive this gift. We have been told the unrestricted gifts were made without any direction or influence from the affiliates or Habitat International. And it appears, when looking at the list of 84 Habitat recipients (out of approximately 1,400 affiliates), the target donations were to major city Habitat locations- San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Houston, Dallas, LA, etc. We are proud that Richmond and Charlottesville were on the list as the only two affiliates from Virginia.Β Β

While Habitat for Humanity Peninsula & Greater Williamsburg was not a recipient of Mackenzie Scott’s generous donation, we have the same mutual goals as the other Habitat affiliates.

DONATE NOW

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
