Welcome Home, Kendra and Family!

Another Dream Realized Through Faith, Community, and the Power of Partnership
Just in time for summer cookouts and long evenings spent playing outside until dusk, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is proud to welcome Kendra and her family into their newly built home in Hampton.
For Kendra—a Hampton native, mother of three, school nutrition professional, and active church member—this home represents far more than just four walls and a roof. It’s the fulfillment of a long-held dream built on determination, faith, and a supportive community that believed in her every step of the way.

That dream was made possible thanks to the generosity of First Baptist Church of Hampton, the official building partner for this project. This marks the fifth Habitat home First Baptist has sponsored, continuing a legacy of service rooted in the vision of the late Dr. Joan S. Parrott, who once dreamed of a “Habitat Village” in the heart of Hampton. That dream lives on—and grows stronger with each home built.

Kendra qualified for the home through Habitat’s first-time Homebuyer Program, a rigorous process that ensures families are financially ready and willing to contribute sweat equity—helping build their own home and others alongside Habitat volunteers.
“I am so proud to stand here today,” said Stephen Abbitt, Immediate Past President of the Habitat Board of Directors, during the dedication ceremony. “Habitat doesn’t give homes away—we partner with families like Kendra’s, who earn them through hard work, financial responsibility, and a deep commitment to building a better future.”

With the help of hundreds of volunteers, in-kind sponsors like Custom Vinyl Products and Ferguson, and land donated by the City of Hampton and the Hampton Redevelopment & Housing Authority, Kendra’s home stands as a powerful symbol of what’s possible when a community comes together in partnership.
“This home is more than bricks and mortar,” said Shauntrice Williams, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “It’s built with love, by hands that care, and by partners who believe that everyone deserves a place to thrive.”
During the dedication, Kendra and her family stood proudly as they pledged to care for their new home, to welcome others with peace, and to continue Habitat’s mission by paying their mortgage forward—funds that will help build homes for future families.

For Kendra, who is also expecting her first grandchild and serves through her church’s Firehouse Ministry, this home is a foundation for new memories, stability, and possibility.
It’s a fresh start—and a forever home.
Join us in celebrating this milestone.
Welcome home, Kendra and family.
