Habitat Yorktown ReStore Holding its Grand Opening on Saturday, May 6
After months of preparations, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg will open its new ReStore in Yorktown on Saturday, May 6, 2023, with a grand opening community celebration from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Yorktown ReStore is located at 4824 George Washington Memorial Highway, next door to Langley Federal Credit Union in Yorktown.
“Our team can’t wait to welcome the community to shop here,” said Gary McFadden, store manager. “We invite everyone to come in and check out everything we have. With donations coming in daily, we encourage folks to return often.”
The opening of the Yorktown ReStore marks the third local ReStore under the direction of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. The local affiliate of the international nonprofit also operates ReStores in Newport News and Williamsburg, noted as the most successful ReStores in the Commonwealth.
The Yorktown ReStore that occupies 13,000 square feet will sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more to the public at a fraction of the retail price, usually 30-90% off. All proceeds from Habitat ReStores support the mission of building homes, communities and hope in the local community.
It costs $125,000 to construct one Habitat house. The homes are sold to families who have qualified to purchase them through the Habitat first-time Homebuyer Program.
“We have set the goal of building at least one more house each year with ReStore proceeds, but ideally we hope to do more than that,” said Janet V. Green, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “We know how generous the Yorktown community is, and we anticipate this Habitat ReStore becoming a great destination for shoppers and donors along the busy Route 17 corridor.”
Like the other local ReStores, the Yorktown location offers donation drop-offs and free donation pickup.
Donations can be currently dropped off at the Yorktown ReStore from Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Follow the signs around the building and the Habitat team will help unload your tax-deductible donation. After the store opens on Saturday, May 6, donation drop-off hours will be Monday through Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Residences and commercial businesses can schedule a free donation pickup online or by calling 757-932-8976.
