Forty years after its founding, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg continues to be among the top-performing affiliates in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The regional affiliate of the international organization received multiple awards at Habitat Virginia’s biennial affordable housing conference held from March 31 to April 2 at Roslyn Retreat Center in Northern Virginia.

The awards, which recognize achievements over the last two fiscal years, are given in the small, medium, and large categories. Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is in the largest category as it serves a population of more than 250,000.

“For 40 years, Peninsula Habitat has had a heart for helping families,” said Casey Reed, Deputy Director of Habitat for Humanity Virginia. “In recent years, they have worked hard to expand their critical home repair program for low-income homeowners, many of whom are elderly or disabled.”

Among the awards:

  • Habitat ReStore Net Profit: The Williamsburg ReStore was honored as the No. 1 ReStore in the state with net profits exceeding $1.9 million. The location at Colony Square Shopping Center is among the most profitable ReStores in the nation. In addition, the Newport News ReStore earned a third-place award for net profits of more than $1.1 million. All ReStore proceeds go toward building affordable housing for families in the local area. Habitat ReStores are home improvement and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture and appliances, home accessories, building materials, and more at a fraction of the price.
  • The affiliate served 86 families through critical home repairs for low-income homeowners and house sales to low-income families. Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg earned awards for the second most repairs and the third most families served overall.
  • The affiliate was honored as the third highest performing for tithes, having contributed $24,000 to sponsoring homes internationally.

“I am grateful for the recognition from Habitat Virginia that comes at a time when we’re marking a special milestone,” said Shauntrice Williams, CEO for Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “These awards are a testament to the dedication of our team and our tireless volunteers who are committed to our mission of building homes, community, and hope.”

Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg builds affordable homes in partnership with local families. Homes are purchased with a zero-interest, 20- to 30-year mortgage by families with low to moderate incomes.

The Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg affiliate serves families from east of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel to New Kent County and was named Nonprofit of the Year 2024 by the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. It is one of 36 affiliates in the Commonwealth.

Since its founding in 1985, the nonprofit has built 233 forever homes, which transform the lives of families and create a positive ripple effect in the community and region. Habitat for Humanity Virginia is the state office for Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Virginia and the District of Columbia. It supports the efforts of local affiliates through training, technical assistance, and other resources.
