Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg Raises Over $7,000 on World Habitat Day
Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is excited to announce that its inaugural World Habitat Day fundraising blitz successfully raised $7,074. The one-day campaign, held on October 7, 2024, united community members, businesses and volunteers in support of the organization’s mission to provide affordable housing for families in need.
The fundraising blitz that launched in celebration of World Habitat Day aimed to raise awareness about the global housing crisis and inspire local action. Dozens of donors from across the region (and even out of state) contributed to the effort, helping the organization continue its vital work of building homes and hope for hardworking families.
The amount raised exceeded organizers’ expectations. Donations were collected online and in person at local Habitat ReStores.
“We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from our community,” said Janet V. Green, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “Raising more than $7,000 in a single day shows how committed residents and businesses are to addressing the affordable housing challenges we face. These funds will go directly toward helping more families achieve their dream of homeownership.”
Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes in partnership with local families. Homes are purchased with a zero-interest, 20- to 30-year mortgage by families with low to moderate incomes.
The funds raised on World Habitat Day will support upcoming construction projects, as well as the organization’s ongoing community programs and services. With the success of this year’s fundraiser, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is already looking forward to making this an annual event, with plans to expand its reach and impact in the coming years.
“Every dollar raised brings us closer to our goal of ensuring that everyone in our community has an affordable place to call home,” said Green. “We want to thank everyone who donated, shared our message, and participated in this first-ever event. Together, we are building more than just houses – we are building stronger communities.”
