Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg Named Nonprofit of the Year by Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce

Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg was named Nonprofit of the Year 2024 by the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, an honor that recognizes the organization’s outstanding contributions to the community and its enduring impact on the lives of local residents. The prestigious award was presented during the Chamber’s annual meeting held Dec. 10.

“Habitat for Humanity provides impactful leadership and action in our community by addressing one of the biggest challenges facing the economic development needs of our communities – Affordable Housing,” Chamber President and CEO Bob McKenna said when presenting the award. “They have built three 3D homes in our region, they operate three retail operations in our region and employ over 80 people, they advocate in Richmond for housing change and, in addition to building and selling new homes, they have a robust repair program.”

Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes in partnership with local families. Homes are purchased with a zero-interest, 20- to 30-year mortgage by families with low to moderate incomes.

“Being recognized as Nonprofit of the Year is an incredible honor for our organization,” said Shauntrice Williams, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg CEO. “This award is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the generosity of our supporters, and the unwavering commitment of our volunteers who work tirelessly to help build homes, communities, and hope. Together, we are creating a brighter future for families across the Peninsula.” Looking ahead to 2025, and the celebration of Habitat’s 40th anniversary on the Virginia Peninsula and in Williamsburg, “we are energized by the work still to come,” Williams said. “There are families waiting for the stability of a safe, affordable home, and there are communities ready to grow stronger. With the continued partnership of the community, we are confident we can reach even greater heights and build a brighter future for all.”
