Delegate W. Chad Green, Sr. Presents Joint Resolution Commending Yorktown ReStore
Recognizing the impact the Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg Yorktown ReStore has made on the community in its first year of operation, Delegate W. Chad Green, Sr. presented the ReStore team with Virginia General Assembly House Joint Resolution No. 107.
The presentation took place at the Yorktown ReStore on Aug. 27, 2024, underscoring the importance of the store’s mission and its impact on local families and individuals.
“We are honored to have Delegate Chad Green, Senator Danny Diggs and the Virginia General Assembly recognize the Yorktown ReStore for its dedication to improving our community,” said Janet V. Green, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “The store not only provides an affordable shopping option for residents, but it also supports Habitat for Humanity’s vital mission to build affordable homes and hope for families right here in our local community. The impact of this ReStore has been felt already and will be felt for years to come.”
The Yorktown ReStore, which officially celebrated its grand opening on May 6, 2023, was established following the remarkable success of Habitat for Humanity’s other two ReStore locations in Newport News and Williamsburg. Both of these locations rank among the top ReStores in the nation, demonstrating the significant demand and community support for such initiatives.
Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently-used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more to the public at a fraction of the retail price, usually 30-90% off.
The goal of the ReStore is to generate enough profits to build more Habitat homes for sale to low- and moderate-income families, as well as to promote recycling. All of the profits from the ReStores are used to build and sell affordable housing.
“The accomplishments of the Yorktown ReStore are a testament to the generosity of our donors, the hard work of our staff and the dedication of our volunteers,” said Gary McFadden, Yorktown ReStore Manager. “We are grateful to the General Assembly for this recognition and look forward to continuing our work to make Yorktown an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”
The resolution, passed by the House of Delegates and concurred by the Senate during the 2024 General Assembly session, formally commends and expresses admiration for the Yorktown ReStore’s mission.
