CVP: Opening Doors and Windows to New Opportunities for Families
Doing what you say you are going to do means something. It’s part of integrity.
That’s what Barry Taylor and Michael Davenport will tell you drives them in business and in life.
As owners of CVP Windows & Doors, Barry and Michael said they would design and build the best custom windows for their customers.
And they do that.
Founded in 2001, CVP Windows & Doors manufactures, delivers and installs custom vinyl windows and doors.
“We are about the only ones within a 100-mile radius that does this,” Barry said. “It’s what sets us apart.”
As experts in the window and door industry, they also committed to helping educate the community.
And they do that.
“We try to use our website as an education site, not just a sales site,” Barry said. “We feel like if we do the right thing in terms of educating the person and giving them what they need they will consider us when they need something.”
And perhaps most importantly, they committed to helping make the community a stronger, healthier place for all.
And they do that.
“We live in this community,” Barry said. “We build for this community. We want to be involved in the community. We stress that because it’s important to us.”
CVP has committed to Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg and donates the windows and exterior doors of every house Habitat builds.
“We had always been involved in the periphery with Habitat because some of our builders had been involved,” Michael said. “But that was an indirect connection. We wanted to get directly connected.”
Within our area, Michael said, “we understand that affordable housing is really difficult. I don’t know of a better opportunity to lift people up than supporting Habitat.”
In the process of getting more involved with Habitat, Michael said, they all learned more about Habitat.
“It wasn’t until after we got involved on a more committed level that we found out Habitat doesn’t GIVE people houses, they help them PURCHASE houses,” Michael said.
Families qualify to purchase Habitat homes through Habitat’s first-time Homebuyer Program that includes a vigorous application process. The buyers commit to paying back a zero-interest, 20- to 30-year mortgage. They must have steady employment, good credit history and be willing to provide 300 hours of “sweat equity,” helping to build their home, the homes of other approved Habitat partner families and helping as volunteers at one of the three local Habitat ReStores in Newport News, Williamsburg or Yorktown. The buyers also must attend homebuyer education and financial literacy classes.
“It’s been a real blessing to be able to see making a real difference,” Barry said. “Home is an anchor. If we can be a part of creating an anchor and a stability for local families in our area, I don’t know of a better thing we can be a part of.”
