Habitat Breaks Ground on Latest Home Construction in Hampton

Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg broke ground on the latest house under construction in Hampton Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Sponsored by First Baptist Church of Hampton, Kendra and her three children will make it a home.

Kendra qualified to purchase this home through Habitat’s first-time Homebuyer Program that includes a vigorous application process. She has committed to pay back a zero-interest, 20- to 30-year mortgage, maintain steady employment, good credit history and be willing to provide 300 hours of “sweat equity,” helping to build their home, the homes of other approved Habitat partner families and helping as a volunteer at one of the three local Habitat ReStores in Newport News, Williamsburg or Yorktown.

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
