Community Partner Spotlight: Thank You, Mobjack Associates
Chris Polson and Adam Redden cringe at the idea of tossing gently used appliances, flooring, doors and other construction materials into a trash dump, especially when they know it can still get years of good use.
Polson is the owner of Mobjack Associates and Redden is site supervisor. The recently formed company focuses on residential and light commercial remodeling. Redden has worked in construction for nearly 30 years, often renovating second and third homes for families, where, “Some of the stuff I’m replacing is virtually brand new.”
That’s why instead of taking everything to a landfill, Redden turns to the Habitat ReStores in Newport News and Williamsburg operated by Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. Proceeds from the sales of gently used items are earmarked for the local affiliate’s mission of building homes, community and hope. Thanks to offering free donation pickup, it could not be easier.
“Ever since they started offering (FREE) donation pickup, I donate more and more because it’s so convenient,” Redden said. “I’ve used Habitat for pretty much every model that I’ve had.”
Polson initially heard about the ReStores from Redden and embraced the idea for Mobjack Associates.
“The free pick up is a certainly a big advantage,” Polson said. “You don’t have to load stuff up in your own trucks and take it somewhere.”
Polson said he also has a heart for the mission.
“I’m all about repurposing,” he said. “I hate stuff taking up room in a landfill that can be used elsewhere. If it can help somebody else out, that makes it that much better.”
