Handy with a Hammer? Become a Team Leader at Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg’s Spring 2023 Home Repair Blitz

If you’re handy in carpentry, general construction or home repair, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is asking for your help during its Home Repair Blitz in James City County.

The local affiliate of the international nonprofit needs skilled volunteers to work as Team Leaders for the exterior home repairs program that assists veterans, low-income, elderly or disabled homeowners with projects such as replacing hand rails, porches, ramps, siding, painting, gutters, fencing and other safety-related improvements.

The scheduled repair day is Saturday, April 29, with a rain date of May 6. Team Leaders should aim to be available on both dates. Orientation for Team Leaders is at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 16 at James City County Human Services Center, located at 5249 Olde Towne Road in Williamsburg.

Each Team Leader will “adopt” a house and oversee the work and volunteers on that home. Team Leaders are asked to generally commit to at least five to six hours of prep time prior to the event and the entire day of the event or the proposed rain date. For more information on being a Team Leader, please contact Maerine Mitchell at helper@habitatpgw.org or at 757-913-5652.

DONATE NOW

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
