Habitat Williamsburg ReStore Celebrates 11th Anniversary with Support from Generous Community

The Habitat ReStore in Williamsburg turned 11 years old in April 2023 and the community turned out for the party.

Store Manager Jonathan Martinez estimates between 1,500 and 2,000 people attended the anniversary celebration on April 15 marked by sales, discounts, raffles and giveaways at the ReStore in Colony Square Shopping Center operated by Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg.

“The success we had on that day and also throughout the whole year is a reflection of the generosity of our community, whether they’re volunteering, donating or shopping,” Martinez said. “We depend on each and every one of them. When I show up on anniversary days and people are lined up at the door before we open, it’s a testimony to the dedication of the public. We’re looking forward to many more years of serving the community.”

The Williamsburg ReStore, among the most successful in the nation, occupies 40,000 square feet and sells new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more to the public at a fraction of the retail price, usually 30-90% off. All proceeds from Habitat ReStores support the mission of building homes, communities and hope in the local community.

It costs $125,000 to construct one Habitat house. The homes are sold to families who have qualified to purchase them through the Habitat first-time Homebuyer Program.

The Williamsburg ReStore at 1303 Jamestown Road is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Dropoff donations are accepted on Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free donation pickup is available by calling the Donation Hotline at 757-932-8976 or by scheduling online.

Community partners Grove Christian Outreach Center, Junk Luggers and Williamsburg House of Mercy hosted their own events at the Williamsburg ReStore during the anniversary event.

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
