Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg Welcomes Shauntrice Williams as New CEO
Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is pleased to announce the appointment of Shauntrice Williams as its new Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Williams, an experienced leader in nonprofit management and community development, will officially begin her new role on November 12, 2024.
Ms. Williams brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her new role, having dedicated her career to improving communities and empowering underserved populations. Her commitment to affordable housing and her strategic vision align well with Habitat for Humanity’s mission to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope.
“Shauntrice brings a wealth of leadership, local community engagement and a commitment to our mission of building homes, community and hope,” said Jim Golini, President-elect of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “Her vision and leadership will be instrumental in guiding our organization to new heights as we continue to serve families across the region.”
Ms. Williams joins Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg from the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas. There, she most recently served as Group Vice President leading the operations, strategy and growth of five branches with a total budget of $9.4 million. Prior to her leadership roles at the YMCA, Ms. Williams spent nearly 13 years at the Salvation Army as a Corps Officer and Executive Director managing all operations for locations in five cities along the east coast.
“My heart has always been in providing food and housing security for individuals,” Ms. Williams said. “My mother instilled that in us as children the need to give back and always told us if you have a little bit of money or a little bit of time, give it to the people who need it. There is always someone who needs it more than you.”
Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes in partnership with local families. Homes are purchased with a zero-interest, 20- to 30-year mortgage by families with low to moderate incomes.
As CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg, Ms. Williams will oversee all aspects of the organization’s regional operations, including the Habitat ReStores in Newport News, Williamsburg and Yorktown, as well as ongoing homebuilding and repair projects, and community outreach initiatives.
Under her leadership, the organization will continue its critical work of addressing housing insecurity by building affordable homes for families in need.
“I personally bought my first home this year,” Ms. Williams said. “I know the feeling of pride when that key was put into my hand, and the feeling of safety knowing that you have your own house. I want to ensure everyone in our community has that same access to safe, affordable housing to call their own home, too.”
Ms. Williams succeeds Janet V. Green, who led the organization for more than 20 years and made significant contributions to its growth and sustainability, boosting an operating budget from $250,000 when she started to over $8 million today. Ms. Green retires on December 31, 2024.
“I am so thankful to Janet and the legacy she is leaving behind,” Ms. Williams said. “Her love and dedication to Habitat is contagious. As the incoming CEO, all I want to do is pick up where she left off, make her proud, and for her to know she has left Habitat in good hands.” Under Ms. Williams’ leadership, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is poised to continue its legacy of service to the community while seeking new opportunities to broaden its impact.
