Habitat for Humanity, the local cities and community departments, plus local businesses and organizations, along with hundreds of community volunteers have partnered to help homeowners in Hampton and Newport News neighborhoods make repairs to the exterior of their homes.

All labor and materials are provided for a nominal fee to eligible homeowners, thanks to generous community sponsors and volunteers.

We assist homeowners with:
  • Carpentry (replace hand rails, porches, stairs, ramps, etc.)
  • Outdoor painting
  • Power washing and debris removal
  • Minor outside repairs (steps, gutters, fence)
  • Safety-related improvements

CALLING ALL TEAM LEADER VOLUNTEERS!

Do you have carpentry, general construction or home repair skills? Volunteer as a TEAM LEADER at our upcoming Home Repair Blitz events!

We need SKILLED volunteers to work as Team Leaders as we assist veteran, low-income, elderly or disabled homeowners with: -exterior carpentry (replace hand rails, porches, stairs, ramps, etc.) -house & siding painting -other minor exterior repairs (steps, gutters, fence) -safety-related improvements

Each Team Leader will “adopt” a house, and oversee the projects and volunteers on that home. Team Leaders will generally commit at least 5-6 hours of prep time prior to the event and also commit all day of the event or the proposed rain date at his or her pre-selected home.

If you are interested in serving as a Team Leader, please reach out to Dava Warner, Director of Community Engagement at 757-913-5654 or [email protected].

Volunteer, Donations, etc.

VOLUNTEERS

To volunteer on this project, please visit our Volunteer Hub and register so we know your interest! We will email those volunteers who opt to receive Volunteer Alert emails via the Hub when we post the schedule. You may be emailed sooner if you are a skilled volunteer and can lead a group on a repair project.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and volunteer groups are welcome! We have enjoyed our partnerships with the military, fraternities, sororities, faith groups, businesses and civic groups.

You can read more about volunteering with Habitat here!

TEAM LEADERS

We continue to need additional Team Leaders to support our community volunteers. And we need your help in identifying skilled team leaders in the community to “adopt” a house during the next blitz! This is a great opportunity for skilled volunteers to lend a helping hand to homeowners by performing exterior repairs on homes.

Each home will be assigned one Team Leader, who will oversee the projects and volunteers on that home.  All Team Leaders should be skilled in carpentry, general construction and/or home repair. Team Leaders will have to commit about 5-6 hours of prep time prior to the event, and also all day at the event Saturday at his or her assigned home(s), until the project is complete.

Would you or someone you know be willing to help serve the families of this community as a Team Leader? Please contact Dava Warner ([email protected]) at 757-913-5654.

DONATIONS / IN-KIND MATERIALS / IN-KIND SERVICES

Want to invest in the community?

DONATE NOW

We help as many families as we can, but the lack of decent and affordable housing remains a critical problem in our area. By donating, you will provide upfront funding for building materials and services that makes interest-free loans to Habitat partner families possible. Habitat partner families help to build their own homes - alongside volunteers - and pay an affordable mortgage. Your monetary donations enable us to continue building strength, stability and independence for future local families.
