Christmas is coming early to Williamsburg this year — and it’s arriving by the trunk load.

Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is partnering with Grove Christian Outreach Center and Williamsburg House of Mercy to host Sleigh Hunger: Christmas in July, a community-wide drive-thru food drive on Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Habitat for Humanity Williamsburg ReStore, located at 1303 Jamestown Road.

Giving back is as simple as pulling in. Donors can drive through the ReStore parking lot, hand off their donations and be on their way — without ever leaving their vehicles.

Every item collected benefits families served by Grove Christian Outreach Center and Williamsburg House of Mercy throughout greater Williamsburg.

“Strong communities are built when neighbors come together to support one another,” said Shauntrice Williams, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “While Habitat is best known for building homes, we know it takes more than housing alone for families to thrive. We’re proud to partner with organizations that are helping meet another essential need by ensuring local families have reliable access to food.”

Most-needed nonperishable items include:

• Canned meat (chicken, tuna, salmon)
• Canned soups and stews (low sodium preferred)
• Canned fruits and vegetables (no salt or sugar added)
• Pasta and sauce
• Breakfast cereals (low sugar options)
• Ramen
• Cooking oil (small bottles)
• Flour, sugar and baking mixes (pancake, muffin, etc.)
• Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, etc.)

“Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity reflects a shared belief that a safe, stable home is about more than four walls—a house is not truly a home if there isn’t food on the table,” said Katie Patrick, Executive Director of the Grove Christian Outreach Center. “By hosting this convenient drive-through food drive, we are making it easy for our community to come together and care for our neighbors in a meaningful way.”

Whether it’s one can or a full trunk of groceries — every donation helps stock local food pantries and keeps critical support flowing to families across the region.
