DESCRIPTION:Bring your small appliances\, laptops\, VCRs\, virtually anything with a plug\, to the Habitat ReStore in Newport News for the free JunkLuggers E-Waste Recycling Event on Saturday\, October 8. \nJunkluggers will be on site between 9 a.m. and 6 pm. \nThe Newport News ReStore is located at 371 Chatham Drive just off of Jefferson Avenue. \nPrinters\, old cell phones\, computer accessories\, miscellaneous wires and random metal items can also be recycled. \nJunkLuggers is a community partner with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg\, which operates the ReStore. \nBoth are committed to sustainability and look for ways to keep waste out of landfills. Approximately 75% to 80% of electronic waste ends up in a landfill. \nAfter dropping off your recycled items\, shop at the ReStore\, which sells furniture\, gently used appliances and much more with all proceeds benefitting the local Habitat affiliate.

DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join us VIRTUALLY for the groundbreaking of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg’s home construction project for the Braddy family. \nTune in here on Facebook Tuesday\, September 27\, 2022 at 10 a.m. for a live stream from the event. \nThe home will be located in Newport News and is being built in partnership with the Braddy family and thanks to the sponsorship of the Annie Belle Reavis Tuccori Foundation. \nThe Annie Belle Reavis Tuccori Foundation honors the memory of a beloved Hampton Roads native\, and supporting the causes that mattered to her most. \nAnnie Belle Reavis Tuccori was born in Norfolk and named after her grandmother. She lived most of her life in Newport News and Hampton. She was a 1942 graduate of Newport News High School where she enjoyed acting in plays. On the weekends\, she would go with her father to the dances hosted at the country club (now The Woodlands Golf Course). Later in life\, Annie was employed by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company where she worked for 24 years. She was a member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church where she said the Lord enriched her life with every lesson there. \nShe believed in Newport News. She witnessed all of the highs and lows that have taken place over the last several decades – the victories\, the abundance\, the strife\, the storms\, the growth. She recognized the tremendous potential of her city\, and saw all of the people and organizations working tirelessly to make that potential a reality. Annie lived a life of prudence\, having grown up through the Great Depression and upon her death chose to provide the community she loved with a generous gift to foster the continued change that made this city so special to her. \nThe event will be held rain or shine and last no more than 30 minutes.

The Williamsburg ReStore is located at 1303 Jamestown Road. \nPrinters\, old cell phones\, computer accessories\, miscellaneous wires and random metal items can also be recycled. JunkLuggers is a community partner with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg\, which operates the ReStore. \nBoth are committed to sustainability and look for ways to keep waste out of landfills. Approximately 75% to 80% of electronic waste ends up in a landfill. \nAfter dropping off your recycled items\, shop at the ReStore\, which sells furniture\, gently used appliances and much more with all proceeds benefitting the local Habitat affiliate.

In fact\, on April 23\, one day after Earth Day\, the Newport News ReStore at 371 Chatham Drive will sponsor a donation drive to coincide with Earth Day. A ReStore truck will be parked at the front of the store\, making it easy for anyone to drive right up with donations that will be unloaded by staff. \n“Anybody can donate\, anybody can shop and anybody can volunteer at the ReStore\,” said Janet V. Green\, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “In order to raise the millions of dollars we have at the ReStore\, we’ve relied on the generosity of our community.”\nDonated items are either resold at 30% to 90% off retail or they are recycled. Proceeds go toward the Habitat mission of building homes\, community and hope locally. \nFolks looking to tackle spring cleaning and the clutter that amassed over the colder months can tidy their homes while supporting an outstanding cause. \n“The ReStore has helped divert tens of thousands of tons of stuff from landfills by reusing\, recycling\, repurposing and restoring items that are truly treasures to some folks\,” said Tina McCabe\, Director of the Newport News ReStore. \nMost know to donate gently used furniture and appliances\, but what else? \nA few ideas: \n• Dishes and china\n• Books and CDs\n• Collectibles and knickknacks\n• Children’s toys\, board games and gaming equipment\n• Jewelry\n• Electrical and plumbing hardware and tools \nIf you haven’t used a kitchen appliance\, crafting materials or linens gifted to you years ago\, why not donate these items so that someone in need could benefit? Drivers are asked to arrive by 9 a.m.\, to park their cars for the show that runs from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. \nAnyone who loves cars is invited to check out the classic models\, talk with the owners and support two great causes. Bring a non-perishable food item and/or gently used clothing to donate to FISH\, Inc.\, a volunteer organization that provides food\, clothing\, housewares and services to people in need. By bringing a donation\, you will receive a discount coupon to shop inside the ReStore at a future date. \nThe Williamsburg ReStore is full of treasures for all tastes. You’ll find furniture\, appliances\, contracting supplies — anything and everything from an inventory that changes on a daily basis. Prices are typically 30% to 90% off retail\, and all proceeds go toward Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. \nThe nonprofit uses the funds to build homes for local families in need.
