DESCRIPTION:Join us in helping SLEIGH HUNGER during this\, the first Christmas in July Drive-Thru Food Drive at the Habitat Williamsburg ReStore to benefit Grove Christian Outreach Center and Williamsburg House of Mercy. \nWednesday\, July 20\, 2022\n8 am to 8 pm \nDrive-Thru the Habitat ReStore in Williamsburg\, located at 1303 Jamestown Rd.\, Williamsburg\, VA 23185. \nItems needed include the following:\n-Hot and Cold Cereal\n-Rice\n-Canned or Mashed\n-Potatoes\n-Stuffing\n-Spaghetti Sauce\n-Pasta\n-Canned or Cups of Fruit\n-Cans of Tuna\, Chicken\, Protein\n-Juice\n-Canned Corn\n-Canned Vegetables\n-Canned Beans\n-Canned Tomatoes\n-Chunky Soups\n-Granola Bars and Crackers\n-Baby Food \nHunger and the need for food knows no season. \nRight now\, food pantries are struggling to maintain the levels of service they have been seeing over the past year. \nThe cost of fuel is cutting into already slim grocery budgets for many\, and the supply chain issues around the world are affecting the amount of food available for food rescue or other traditional methods of stocking pantry shelves. In the past\, food pantries would see some regular donors making regular trips with a bag or two of groceries that\, collectively\, had a tremendous impact. Fuel costs are keeping people closer to home\, and reducing the amount of “extra” people are able to do. \nFood pantries are feeling the squeeze\, and are looking for help. \nLet’s come together as a community to help!

DESCRIPTION:Bring your small appliances\, laptops\, VCRs\, virtually anything with a plug\, to the Habitat ReStore in Williamsburg for the free JunkLuggers E-Waste Recycling Event on Saturday\, June 25. \nJunkluggers will be on site between 11 am and 2 pm. The Williamsburg ReStore is located at 1303 Jamestown Road. \nPrinters\, old cell phones\, computer accessories\, miscellaneous wires and random metal items can also be recycled. JunkLuggers is a community partner with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg\, which operates the ReStore. \nBoth are committed to sustainability and look for ways to keep waste out of landfills. Approximately 75% to 80% of electronic waste ends up in a landfill. \nAfter dropping off your recycled items\, shop at the ReStore\, which sells furniture\, gently used appliances and much more with all proceeds benefitting the local Habitat affiliate.

DESCRIPTION:Earth Day is an annual milestone that encourages us to stop for a moment and invest in our planet — a concept that’s easy to embrace yet daunting if we ask what can we do that really makes a difference? \nHabitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg recommends an easy solution that benefits you\, the environment and your local community. \nDonate to the Habitat ReStores in Newport News and Williamsburg. In fact\, on April 23\, one day after Earth Day\, the Newport News ReStore at 371 Chatham Drive will sponsor a donation drive to coincide with Earth Day. A ReStore truck will be parked at the front of the store\, making it easy for anyone to drive right up with donations that will be unloaded by staff. \n“Anybody can donate\, anybody can shop and anybody can volunteer at the ReStore\,” said Janet V. Green\, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “In order to raise the millions of dollars we have at the ReStore\, we’ve relied on the generosity of our community.”\nDonated items are either resold at 30% to 90% off retail or they are recycled. Proceeds go toward the Habitat mission of building homes\, community and hope locally. \nFolks looking to tackle spring cleaning and the clutter that amassed over the colder months can tidy their homes while supporting an outstanding cause. \n“The ReStore has helped divert tens of thousands of tons of stuff from landfills by reusing\, recycling\, repurposing and restoring items that are truly treasures to some folks\,” said Tina McCabe\, Director of the Newport News ReStore. \nMost know to donate gently used furniture and appliances\, but what else? \nA few ideas: \n• Dishes and china\n• Books and CDs\n• Collectibles and knickknacks\n• Children’s toys\, board games and gaming equipment\n• Jewelry\n• Electrical and plumbing hardware and tools \nIf you haven’t used a kitchen appliance\, crafting materials or linens gifted to you years ago\, why not donate these items so that someone in need could benefit? If you’re planning to downsize\, spring is an ideal time to sort through everything you’ve accumulated and ask yourself whether you truly will be using it. \nIf your garage has become a spare room for sports and exercise equipment\, free up space with your donations. Get rid of unwanted skis\, tennis rackets\, golf clubs and golf bags.

DESCRIPTION:The Muscarelle Museum will bring its Driveway Chalk Art Competition to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore parking lot in Williamsburg on Saturday\, July 17\, and invites community members to enter on the spot for a chance to win a $2\,500 first prize. \nSelect one of 50 images from the museum’s permanent collection to participate in the first-ever Driveway Chalk Art Competition\, and create your piece at home\, at your place of business\, or even in the Habitat ReStore parking lot at 1303 Jamestown Road in Williamsburg. \nSteve Prince\, Director of Engagement & Distinguished Artist in Residence at the Muscarelle Museum\, will be there drawing two pieces\, and he and museum volunteers will be available to offer assistance. A portion of the parking lot will be roped off from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, for festivities that will include a food truck and a DJ. \n“We will set people up with their squares so they can build their images\, and we’ll have chalk on hand\, so they can come out with their family and their friends\, join in on the fun and enter the competition on the spot\,” Prince said. “If people don’t already know how to translate an image and blow it up\, we’ll show them how to do it.” \nCompetition entry requires registration and snapping a photo of your finished masterpiece and uploading it to be eligible for prizes that range from $300 for honorable mention to $2\,500 for first place. Entries must be received by midnight on July 31\, 2021. \nPrince said the Muscarelle Museum\, a culturally rich community resource located on the campus of the College of William and Mary\, and the Habitat ReStore\, a nonprofit home improvement store and donation center that uses proceeds to benefit the Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg mission\, are natural partners. \n“Both the Muscarelle Museum and the Habitat ReStore are service organizations\, so I see this as the perfect marriage\,” Prince said. “We service the community by showcasing art and artistic activities. The Habitat ReStore is all about upcycling – something passed on can be healthy and positive to another person. The Habitat ReStore and the museum are similar in terms of enriching families and enriching homes and the culture of the community.” \nThe competition has received entries from California\, Vermont\, Louisiana and Tennessee in addition to numerous entries from throughout Hampton Roads. Prince continues to participate in various popup events to promote what will become an annual event. He created chalk art works multiple times in Merchants Square and at the recent Gloucester Arts Festival. On July 10\, he chalked a piece in front of the Kennedy Center in Washington\, D.C. \nThe Muscarelle Museum website offers tips and tricks to help artists complete their pieces and photograph them properly. \nEach driveway art submission requires a $20 entry fee that will go toward supporting future art projects in the Williamsburg community. Celebrity juror CCH Pounder\, a friend of Prince’s and an art collector\, will select the winners.
